Mercure Poitiers Centre

4-star hotel in a converted 19th-century Jesuit chapel in central Poitiers

Architecture & History

Mercure Poitiers Centre occupies a former 19th-century Jesuit chapel, a conversion that retains original Gothic features like vaulted ceilings and tall columns. The hotel's restaurant, Les Archives, is set in the area where the nave once stood, creating a dining space with cathedral-like grandeur. This architectural setting earned the hotel guest praise as "a unique experience" and "a wonderful historic building."

Dining

Guests can dine at Les Archives, the on-site restaurant housed in the former chapel nave, which guest reviews describe as "one of the best in Poitiers" for its food quality and value. The restaurant offers a lunch menu which guests called "an absolute bargain for the quality" and is noted for being "very vegetarian friendly." Breakfast is served each morning in a separate breakfast room or can be delivered to the guestroom, with a selection that includes local specialties.

Rooms & Suites

The hotel offers a range of room types, including classic double rooms and superior rooms with one double bed, some of which are split-level duplex suites built into the rafters of the old chapel roof. Guest reviews note that certain rooms feature an upstairs bedroom with a desk area downstairs, a separate toilet, and a shower-a layout that guests found both spacious and quirky. All rooms are soundproofed and equipped with air conditioning, with some superior rooms located in a modern wing adjacent to the historic building.
